Many times during the week, I have to scramble from class to class without time to actually stop and sit down for a proper meal at the dining hall. Or sometimes, I just don’t feel like settling with a mediocre salad or sandwich. I want a cool variety of vegan toppings on a bed of kale or a fat slab of avocado and hummus on a seeded multigrain roll. Yes, the dining hall’s panini press is amazing, but the options are limited to the typical sliced veggies and mustard between a white hoagie roll.

That’s when I stroll along to Café Crossing.

Located right under the IV, Café Crossing is a school-affiliated mini cafe that serves to both the Northeastern University students and staff as well as any passers-by looking for a healthier lunch option.

The menu ranges from breakfast pastries to healthy salad bowls to hearty sandwiches. Plus they serve hot beverages (soy-milk option available!).

20170123_122822There’s not a lot of seating space, so be prepared to take your food to-go.

Please excuse the poor photo quality. It was pretty packed that day, I already looked creepy taking pictures of everything and my finger started randomly bleeding. To add on to that, my phone camera shattered, leaving black specks on the corners of the photos. 😦 I tried mixing in some past pictures of some of the stuff I got on previous visits.

snapchat-412513730Myriad of choices for both omnis and vegs. I realized how terrible this picture is, since you can’t even see what’s in each of those containers.

From top left to bottom right: BBQ mushrooms, garlic hummus artichoke spread, pumpkin hummus, turkey, ham, quinoa, farro, roasted squash/zucchini, provolone cheese, swiss cheese, shredded carrots, cucumber kimchi, tuna salad, and idk the last one.

20170123_124120A small display case of pastries. Sadly, no vegan ones (maybe the bagels).

20170123_123812My simple salad, consisting of kale/spinach mix, BBQ mushrooms, edamame and chimichurri vinaigrette.

20170118_092718I do find the breads quite disappointing though. Just the typical, bagged loaves.

Of course, it’s by far from the best food in town, but it is one of the most veg-friendly options around the NEU campus. The staff is friendly and accommodating to any dietary requests. Plus, it’s pretty affordable and quite trendy for a school-owned cafe. Think a fancy Subway shop.

p1000414I enjoyed today’s salad with a squeeze of lemon, hemp hearts and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes. Yummmm.

If you’re looking for a quick fix in the Northeastern University area, I recommend checking this place out!

*UPDATE: 5-grain bread is vegan (no honey, dairy, egg)
